Things to do during the Labour Day Weekend, September 2 to 5

A slew of exhibitions, world-class auteur film, a mind-blowing art performance, a giant round-up of food trucks, a food fest that shines the spotlight on Québec cuisine, activities for families and hot party evenings: it’s going to be one mighty fine long weekend in the city!

Montréal’s museums and art galleries are teeming with excellent exhibitions. On September 2, the MAC opens the doors to its popular Nocturne from 5 p.m. to 2 in the morning. Take advantage of your visit to see Edmund Alleyn. In my studio, I am many, Jean-Pierre Gauthier and Ryoji Ikeda. OrchestratedLiz Magor. Habitude and Lizzie Fitch/Ryan Trecartin. Priority Innfield while you’re there. At the MMFA don’t miss the last days of the POMPEII until September 5 and take part in a musical experience that combines urban art and play structures with the sweet 21 balançoires (21 swings) on the Promenade des Artistes at the Quartier des spectacles. Starting August 31, you can see the World Press Photo at Bonsecours Market, which showcases the winning photographs of this prestigious professional world competition.

Maison_Saint-Gabriel_musee_et_site_historiqueOn September 4, take the family to see the Harvest Festival at Maison Saint-Gabriel for a day of fun and market-fresh abundance that includes entertaining, educational and musical performances. Film

In addition to globe trotting with the line-up at Montréal World Film Festival, you can watch outdoor screenings in the city’s parks and public spaces. Choose from the selections featured during Cinéma sous les étoiles and Cinéma urbain à la belle étoile.

You still have up until September 26 to enjoy Aires libres and stroll under a canopy of Boules roses, have a drink or a bite to eat on the outdoor patios of the Village and discover the new installation created by seven local and international artists for the Tout le nécessaire exhibition.

Belvedere_Mont-RoyalGet your green fix at the gardens at Saint Joseph’s Oratory, the bucolic site of Les Jardineries the Olympic Stadium or even the Jardins Gamelin. On September 4, if you go on a stroll to the top of Mount Royal, stop at the Chalet du Mont-Royal to hear the lovely little “Guitares en folie!” concert, which offers a combination of jazz and classical music at 3 p.m.

To stock up on local foods, every Thursday until September 15, you can fill up your shopping basket at the public market on the Esplanade Place Ville Marie on Esplanade Place Ville Marie or the Éclusiers Market , where you can sit on a sunny outdoor terrace, across from giant silo no 5, and enjoy a beverage.

From September 3 to 5, the Festival YUL Eat invites you to discover its festive ambiance and try some excellent food, make new discoveries and have fun in Old Montréal on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. You can also chat with local producers and sample culinary creations from Québec’s celebrated talent.

At the Cinquième Salle in Place des Arts, immerse yourself in the universe of Nufonia Must Fall Live, a work by Kid Koala that integrates film, theatre and music and which is directed by the celebrated K.K. Barrett (Her, Where the Wild Things Are, Adaptation and Being John Malkovich).
